El Mirage

Meeting Time: Friday Run: meet at 8:30PM, hit trail 9:00PM. Saturday run: meet 9:00AM, leave shortly thereafter

Run type: Base Camp – bring your motor homes, campers and tents
Difficulty Rating: 3–4+
Trail Description: Desert washes, hills, gulches to meander thru, tight canyons and rocks.
Friday evening, run the trail to Crow’s Nest and explore. Saturday, run The Roughwheelers “Old Fearless Jeep Trail”

Equipment Required: These trails will require low range gears, high ground clearance and 4WD. Skid plates and body protection are recommended. Minimum 33 inch or bigger tires. Recommend at least one axle locker.
Permits Required: Special recreation permit-$15/day; $30/week; $90/season
Communications: CB Channel 4.
Reminder to Bring: Bring food and plenty of water, chairs, basic tools, shovel, camera, clothing for warm days and cold nights, sunscreen, etc. Firewood (1 bundle per night minimum).
NOTE: It is illegal to bring or burn pallets at El Mirage. Wood with nails or screws is also illegal. All glass containers are illegal.

Campground information:
From LA area: Take the 405 N to the I-5 N to the 14 N to Palmdale Blvd. Exit Palmdale Blvd going E, until it ends. Turn left on 240th Street for approx. 1.5 miles; turn right (East) on Avenue "P". Avenue "P" becomes El Mirage Road. Follow El Mirage Road to a left on Mountain View Road into the El Mirage OHV Recreational Area. Pay at the Kiosk and continue around the Visitors Center to a right turn on the main road until you see Out-House #9 (on the left hand side). Pass #9, look for a wash road on the right marked by piles of rocks on both sides and blue trail tape on the bushes heading NE. Turn right and take the trail until you see the campsite at the base of the largest hill (this will be Crow’s Nest). There is plenty of room for campers, trailers and tents. NOTE: The wash road may be hard to spot, go fast and go past! If you see Out-House #10, you have gone to far.
From Orange County: Take 395 North to El Mirage Rd. Turn left onto El Mirage, go West for about 5 miles and turn right onto Mountain View Road and into the El Mirage OHV Recreational Area.
