Trail Description: John Bull is probably the most difficult trail in the Big bear area. Most write-ups describe this run as “Most Difficult”. It’s steep, rocky and narrow with no bypasses for the hardest parts. The trail starts around 7000' and ascends to 8000'+ so please be prepared for the altitude. We will be traveling east to west on the trail which means we will be ascending for the first two miles of the trail. These two miles will be the most difficult along with the last 300 yards or so. There are stunning views of the Lucern Valley behind you, but the trail keeps you busy enough that you may not notice. This trail is a wonderful experience if you haven’t done it before. There are plenty of videos on YouTube if you want to get a good idea of what to expect. Depending on our turn out we’ll take one of two routes

Equipment Required: 33’s with a rear locker as a minimum. Both lockers and 35’s recommended. Full skid plates and vehicle armor highly recommended as the entire trail is rocky and loose in places.
Permits Required: Adventure Pass. Annual $30 or day $5, available at most sports equipment stores as well as Ranger stations and Discovery Center
Reminder to Bring: Bring lunch and extra water, chairs, basic tools, shovel, camera, extra weather appropriate clothing, etc.
